Introduction to LTE-Advanced
With features such as carrier aggregation and 8x8 MIMO in the downlink, LTE-Advanced meets the ITU requirements for IMT-Advanced in terms of peak data rates. However, the main concern remains capacity and LTE-Advanced provides a number of solutions to deal with the explosion of data traffic. This webinar will present a technical introduction to some of the functionalities that come with LTE Release 10, as well as an overview of Release 11 and Release 12. Careful network planning and optimization is critical and best practices will be discussed in order to adapt to the new requirements of LTE-Advanced.

Using Mentum Fusion to Integrate Third-Party Data Sources with Mentum Planet
Several benefits are realized by planning teams that integrate external data with their Mentum Planet projects, such as: having the network configuration from an external data source, using site candidate locations and activation dates from an inventory system and seeing project priorities and responsibilities that are translated from project management data. However, these benefits are often significantly reduced or bypassed because of either the overhead of manual data integration or the delays and  complications associated with scripted and/or programmed processes.  Having an effective integration and distribution strategy for Mentum Planet project data can yield several advantages, such as the ability to: quickly integrate and leverage beneficial external data sources, easily leverage geospatial region and point data stored in maps or a database and make additional data available to engineers without interfering in their work. This webinar will demonstrate how to achieve this by using the data integration platform and new capabilities in Mentum Fusion 1.11 along with Mentum Planet and the Data Manager.

eICIC and Its Importance for LTE Small Cell Deployment
Small cells are increasingly becoming the leading solution to the growing capacity crunch in cellular networks. However, in many cases, regions of high traffic demand require the deployment of small cells within strong macro cell coverage. This effectively requires enhanced inter-cell interference (eICIC) mechanisms to properly handle the interference between the macro and the small cell layers. As the range of small cells is extended to offload traffic from a macro cell, the range extension region becomes highly vulnerable to high macro cell interference in co-channel deployments and in the absence of eICIC. This webinar will address the techniques and challenges of eICIC in LTE networks, and the importance of properly planning eICIC in heterogeneous networks. Almost blank Subframes (ABS) and Cross Carrier Scheduling will be discussed. The anticipated network capacity gains under eICIC will be discussed as well.

An in-Depth View of the Metro Network Design Package

With the emergence of small cells and the increasing amount of indoor traffic, the need for 3D modeling in radio network planning tools is becoming critical. The Metro Network Design Package (MNDP) in Mentum Planet has been designed with that in mind. The MNDP in Mentum Planet 5.6 offers a propagation model called "Planet 3D Model" (a.k.a. "P3M"), specifically designed for small cells, 3D propagation, and urban modeling in general. The Metro Designer, also part of the Metro Network Design Package, offers a 3D visualization of the network, including building data, analysis layers, traffic maps, as well as cell sites. It hence allows users to have a full understanding of the coverage, quality, and capacity of cellular networks, for any Radio Access Technology supported in Mentum Planet.

Assuring LTE Services with a Next-Gen Backhaul Performance Analysis Framework

The move from 2G to 3G was fairly straightforward for mobile network operators (MNOs) when compared to what they are facing in the transition to 4G/LTE. The all-IP nature of Long Term Evolution means that complex architectural changes must be implemented and assured across the whole mobile infrastructure, - from the core, all the way to the transport and access networks,.  To cope with the forthcoming challenges, MNOs must restructure how they operate, monitor network performance and ensure service quality. This presentation will discuss how a unified service performance assurance framework for LTE and backhaul networks can help meet service quality expectations and operational excellence objectives.

LTE Heterogeneous Networks & Carrier WiFi: What is the opportunity?
WiFi is becoming a key concern for network engineers as more and more wireless carriers are considering it as a cost effective solution for tackling skyrocketing consumer data demand (and cable operators wishing to expand their fixed broadband market appeal). While attractive for its simplicity and wide adoption in user equipment today, WiFi, nevertheless, is no silver bullet in terms of the fundamentals of telecommunications. Like other systems, it is not interference-immune and its capacity has limits. The evolution of the standard offers promises, but user equipment is years from being able to leverage that evolution. This webinar will address the design challenges of a carrier WiFi network and assess its potential as a data offloading solution for existing 3G networks.
