Radio systems that ensure efficient communications between control centers and trains traveling at high speeds have been catered to by the GSM-R (Global System for Mobile Communications – Railway) standard. System design, given the speed of the trains involved, has to be accurate.
The RF planning of railroad systems is a specialized propagation challenge. Mentum Planet addresses this challenge through the support of radio repeaters, split sectors and remote radios – all of which are commonly deployed in railway coverage systems such as GSM-R. The unique Universal Model supports propagation along railway tracks and includes corrections which are specific to railway environments such as bridges, embankments, tunnels, etc. Finally, Mentum Planet includes an embedded AFP and assisted frequency retuning function to support GSM-R operators with production of high-quality frequency plans using tight spectrum.
